What you’ll be responsible for


Assisting the Network Manager to manage a substantial operational area to achieve regulatory, Health & Safety, financial, customer and performance targets. Ensuring the Network assets are managed to optimal efficiency within agreed budgetary targets whilst meeting all Customer Service and serviceability targets.


This will include:

  • Resolving Customer related issues with regards to the Sewerage Network, taking ownership and resolving to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Assisting the Network Manager and reviewing the departmental budget, workload and manpower requirements to ensure delivery of the annual projects throughput.
  • Liaising with Asset Strategy, LAM and Capital delivery teams to ensure Network risks are identified and fully understood.
  • Identifying any areas for future efficiency savings together with the development and implementation of appropriate business plans to ensure delivery of the savings, including liaison with others across other departments to enable adoption of initiatives and best practice in other areas of the business.
  • Maintaining a quality management system and achieving a high standard of internal and external audit compliance.
  • Ensuring all activities are carried out in line with Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Participating in a Standby rota.
  • Assisting the Network Manager with external stakeholders to include active management of regulatory relationships e.g. Environment Agency representatives and the Involvement and participation in various community groups when appropriate.
  • Representing the company during incidents with outside agencies such as the emergency services, EHO, Local government etc.
  • Ensuring all service providers are effectively managed and are compliant with Welsh Water management systems & processes.
  • Providing technical support to service providers and associated field staff.
  • Undertaking enhanced governance of service providers to include Health & Safety, financial,quality and customer service against Key performance indicators.
  • Managing Service Providers & associated field teams involved in the operation, maintenance & repair of sewerage network assets.
  • Ensuring activities are carried out in line with the management framework, procedures andmonitoring plan.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory and legislative requirements where appropriate.
  • Assisting the Network Manager with the safe & efficient operation of the sewerage network, ensuring that all operational activities are undertaken in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner.
Further duties


  • Actively promoting environmental awareness within the business. Seen as an environmental role model in the business.
  • Ensuring all investigations, not exclusive to flooding incidents, third party associated and customer service investigations are of the highest standard and compliant with their respective audit procedures.
  • Capital Maintenance – Identifying investment requirements to improve service and reduce costs supporting the overall Welsh Water Asset Strategy.
  • Assisting the Network Manager in accident and near hit reporting, Certificate of Isolation, Permits to Work, Risk Assessments, Management of Contractors and provide H&S support to the teams.
  • Managing the Access to Assets Procedure.
  • Developing a motivated and sustainable workforce.
  • Establishing a high performance culture with appropriate training and full implementation of process improvements afforded by investment in new technology or working practices.
  • Emergency Response – providing and testing of appropriate functional contingency plans.
  • Monitoring and reviewing telemetry alarms. Carrying out detailed investigations and making recommendations that reduce alarm activity and improve operational efficiencies.
  • Assisting the Network Manager with proactively developing further the North Wales drainage and catchment groups.
  • Effectively liaising with Highway Authorities with regards to Streetworks defects.
  • Effectively liaising with NDC and new connection process.
  • Covering and deputising for the Network Manager as appropriate, participating in relevant regional groups as required.
  • Undertaking any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.
About you



  • Hold current driving licence
  • Experience gained through thorough understanding of waste water service delivery and highly competent in terms of working within high performance teams
  • Experience of Microsoft applications and SAP
  • Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day 
  • An ability to think strategically but also able to ensure effective day to day delivery of services 
  • Excellent awareness of the current Serviceability and SIMS performance targets and Factors influencing the scoring mechanism 
  • Excellent communicator (verbal & written) with strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate ideas, targets & solutions to colleagues and service providers 
  • An excellent understanding of planning and scheduling of work processes 
  • The ability to develop positive working relationships and to be a highly credible senior representative of the business 


  • Holding a HNC qualification
  • Holding or be working towards Health & Safety qualification
  • Civil Engineering background
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Welsh
