Job Description

We're looking for a Temporary Works Designer to join our Source Design Team working within out Natural Resources, Nuclear and Networks business unit working. Working hybrid from home and the maple cross office, Hertfordshire.

Location: Working from home and the Maple Cross office, Hertfordshire

Contract: Permanent, Full Time - flexible and part-time hours may be available if desired, just let us know

Responsibilities

As a Temporary Works Designer, you'll be working within the Source Design team within a business unit that concentrates on utility, civils and capital project type work. The role will provide detailed design and checking of temporary works and minor permanent works for civil engineering.

Your day to day will include:

  • Providing technical support to assist with operational activities, including support of excavations, falsework and formwork, access scaffolds, working platforms, shaft/tunnel installation, plant equipment, lifting operations.
  • Designing Trench Support / Reinforced concrete shaft bases and roof slabs, steelwork fabrications, pipework thrust restraints.
  • Preparation and checking of detailed technical designs (including calculations, drawings, risk assessments, design certificates)
  • Undertake preliminary designs for pricing - obtain independent checks and/or third party technical approvals.
  • Undertake technical review of method statements for complex or unusual methods.

What are we looking for?

This role of Temporary Works Designer is great for you if have:

  • Degree in civil engineering and incorporated/chartered with a relevant professional institution (or en-route to achieving such a qualification)
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering management, construction processes and technical design
  • Able to identify risks and opportunities an think laterally but remain critically objective in evaluating alternatives
