Job Purpose

You will provide technical support for all matters related to compliance with statutory & legislative requirements in United Utilities across a broad range of equipment, ensuring that United Utilities is compliant with Statutory legislation and Regulatory requirements in respect of equipment coming under their remit. You will ensure all assets remain compliant and that all statutory and regulatory maintenance activities are undertaken in an efficient and effective way. Liaising with Capital Delivery Teams to confirm that they have a robust process for ensuring handover of assets in compliance with the statutory inspection and maintenance requirements for the agreed equipment types will be an important part of the role. You will also be required to deliver multiple packages of work across a wide equipment base and liaise with multiple stakeholders across many internal departments and external organisations.

Job Accountabilities

You will be responsible for ensuring all in scope assets are maintained in compliance with any required current legislation or regulation, whilst liaising with Mechanical Engineering team to ensure plans to ensure United Utilities is compliant with legislation are implemented. You will also be responsible for:

  • Assisting the Technical Assurance Manager (TAM) in ensuring that all in-house resources engaged in this work have the right competence with a plan in place to ensure their knowledge and skills remain relevant in light of any changes to legislation.
  • Assisting the TAM in ensuring all third parties engaged in activity in completion of the work adhere to all company policies and procedures, including safe systems of work.
  • Assisting the TAM in Ensuring all procedures and processes associated with the delivery of this work are documented, communicated and adhered to across the company. 
  • Working with supply chain to ensure that all third party arrangements are robust and meet the technical requirements of the activities.
  • Working with other areas of the business notably Maintenance Strategy, to ensure a delivery plan is in place to cover PSSR, LOLER, Gas Safety Regulations, Water Bylaws, Maritime law and other regulations applicable to United Utilities.
  • Ensuring that work plans and access arrangements are in place to minimise aborted visits.
  • Supporting the TAM in ensuring documentation, processes and systems are up to date.

Knowledge and Skills

To be considered for this role you will need to be qualified in a relevant engineering, technical or Health & Safety discipline such as NEBOSH and ideally degree qualified with a background in Maintenance & Reliability. You will also have:

  • Relevant experience and qualifications to demonstrate a high level of capability in the area of delivering packages of work and small projects
  • Technical experience of water and wastewater assets and any associated statutory, regulatory and mandatory requirements would be preferred.
  • Have a high level of ability with MS office applications especially Excel.
  • A strong ability to organise and prioritise workload to meet deadlines
  • Problem solving, particularly of technical issues will be a major part of the role.
