The Control Room manages the Distribution Network for 1.4 million customers across the SPM licence for Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales. It is responsible for both Planned and Fault work and delivering excellent Customer Service.

The role of Support Engineer sits within Customer Service - Planning, reporting to the Planning Manager.

In this role you will provide support to the Control Room in planned and fault situations and prepare Outage information to assist with key decision making and network access within the Control Room.

As SPEN transitions to DSO, this role includes supporting the implementation of the solutions required for delivering Net Zero.  With more parties becoming actively engaged with the electricity network, real time management will be required to balance the supply and demand with the capacity of the network.

Role 

As Support Engineer, you will deliver engineering support services for the Distribution network control room.  

What you will be doing

Facilitate change necessary within Customer Services Delivery as the distribution network transitions to Net Zero.

Work with new and existing generation partners to utilise flexibility service arrangements and Distribution Restart Zone partnerships.

Reviewing and investigating system performance following major EHV incidents and faults.

Support the Control Room including as a Control Person as required.

Manage, co-ordinate or participate in multi discipline projects, tasks or areas of activity as required by business needs.

Establish and maintain excellent relationships with Major Customers and other DNO's and National Grid (ESO and NGET) for system outages.

Give advice and support as required on technical matters relating to network.

Responsible for the co-ordination of network outages impacting the network from two years ahead to day ahead timescales.

Represent the Control Room on network development forums (e.g. SRG, DSRG)

Support and maintain systems within the control room

What you will bring

Distribution and/or network knowledge required

Operational experience would be of benefit but not essential

Ability to form strong working relationships across all EN business areas and at all levels

Ability in dealing with major customers

A proven aptitude for using and developing new IT solutions

Ability to co-ordinate a broad range of complex tasks and requirements from different business areas and devise solutions.

Working knowledge of key Energy Networks policies, procedures and working practices

Takes responsibility and accountability for tasks and activities and contributes to the achievement of team goals by providing support, advice, encouragement and clear direction and coaching when appropriate.

Interpretation of Asset data & post fault analysis of plant and equipment.

Ability to define and document new processes for key strategic changes within the Control Room.

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate as a minimum:

HNC with relevant experience

or

Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering would be preferable.
