Job Description

Senior Public Policy Manager- ScottishPower

London base - Tudor Street, Blackfriars

               Hybrid/Flexible Working

Help us build a better, greener future, quicker

If you have a strong background in public policy with proven analytical and commercial skills, this is your chance to shape the policy thinking of a major UK energy company leading the low carbon transition.

ScottishPower is the first major integrated energy company in the UK to be generating 100% green power based on renewable generation. It is part of the Iberdrola Group, one of the world's largest energy companies by market capitalisation and a global leader in meeting the Net Zero challenge. Our businesses span renewable generation, green hydrogen, networks and energy retail.

Reporting to the Director of Public Policy, in this high profile role you'll have strong working relationships with government officials to understand their thinking and identify win-win opportunities for ScottishPower. With experience of working in a public policy role - ideally in government - you'll have a thorough knowledge of how the policy-making process works and an ability to use analytical skills in assessing and developing public policy positions/arguments. Using a strong understanding of commercial issues, you'll quickly grasp the impacts of a policy proposal and be able to formulate a response.

Deploying excellent communication skills, you will be a persuasive communicator on public policy issues - representing ScottishPower at high-level meetings and roundtables with government officials and other stakeholders. You'll also ensure our business teams understand the range of public policy issues and their commercial implications, providing succinct explanations at both senior manager and working level.

You'll have the ability to synthesise complex and overlapping policy issues, formulate arguments and provide focussed responses that support our commercial position across our businesses. This is an exciting role for an experienced public policy professional and so if you think you're up for the challenge, we'd love to hear from you.

Pay and benefits

As well as a highly competitive London salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits, including an annual bonus (up to 20% of salary), plus a car allowance and family health cover. And, with our pension scheme, we'll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.

 Our other ScottishPower benefits include:

  • Share Incentive Plan and Sharesave Scheme

  • 36 days annual leave

  • Holiday purchase - offering extra annual leave

  • Electric Vehicle Schemes - to help transition to electric driving

  • Cycle to Work scheme and public transport season ticket loans

  • Technology Vouchers - save more and spread the cost of your purchases

  • Life Assurance (4x salary)

  • Plus shopping, leisure, restaurant and gym discounts, and unique employee deals on travel insurance and more
