The Optimisation Team focus on driving efficiencies through Smart ways to make the network better. They are currently looking for a Senior Optimisation Engineer to join the team.

As part of a wider team of Engineers within the Smart Water Strategy team, you will be responsible for identifying, investigating, and quantifying the benefit, cost and risk of system optimisation opportunities. You will lead on ensuring the design and delivery or implementation of system-based 'Source to Tap' Optimisation solutions across the AWS region. You will have the ability to engineer specific and tailored solutions, such as hydraulic efficiency, pressure management, energy efficiency or treatment optimisation. These will be cost effective, completed within agreed timescales and cost constraints utilising the appropriate delivery route.

You will provide support to the Optimisation Portfolio Manager in ensuring opportunities are identified and prioritised and that programme areas are delivered effectively providing assurance to the rest of the team in the projects that are developed.

Using technical and process experience, you will provide support to the Water Optimisation Team and Water Business Stream in relation to the reduction of operating costs of the water system. The role will enable integration and collaboration across the various Water Sub-Business streams and wider key stakeholder areas. You will work primarily in a portfolio of Water Resources and Treatment or Treated Water Distribution with expert knowledge in one of these areas being an advantage.

The role will support embedding of new technologies and solutions to facilitate the efficient operation of our system.

What does it take to be a Senior Optimisation Engineer?

A Senior Optimisation Engineer will have general water engineering knowledge and project management experience. You will also be able to demonstrate expertise in a relevant area and therefore lead in one of the following: Abstraction, Hydrology, Treatment, Energy, Water Quality, Maintenance, Hydraulics and Customer Experience. You will also have:

  • Strong technical knowledge and operational experience of water assets and systems from Source to tap

  • Strong technical knowledge of analysis technical, how to use geospatial information and various data modelling tools. Hydraulic modelling would be an advantage

  • Proven track record of identifying and delivering projects, preferably in an optimisation environment

  • Proven financial management skills and ability to control a project budget

  • Experience of building and managing productive, credible business relationships

  • Strong analytical skills including data manipulation

  • Good understanding of IT systems and applications

  • Strong motivation and coaching skills

  • Excellent communicator at all levels

  • Able to challenge and collaborate constructively

  • Ability to understand and resolve problems quickly tackling cause not symptoms
