The Optimisation Team focus on driving efficiencies through Smart ways to make the network better. They are currently looking for a Senior Operational Optimisation Engineer to join the team

As part of a wider team of Engineers within the Smart Water Strategy team, you will be responsible for investigating and supporting with operational and tactical requirements of the Water Business Stream as well as providing leadership support to the relevant FLM. Utilising your specialism, you will lead on root cause analysis and development of solutions to these more reactive situations across the AWS region.

You will have the ability to appraise and develop specific and tailored solutions that are cost effective and efficient within agreed timescales and cost constraints with consideration to the appropriate delivery route. As the Senior Engineer you will be responsible for leading on ensuring the service supplied to the Water Business Stream and wider business streams is functioning and meeting the requirements of our internal customers.

The role will have an engineering specialism within the water sector but also a good general water engineering/hydraulic knowledge working from Source to Tap. The Operational Engineering roles are biased towards Treated Water Distribution so a specialism including hydraulic modelling will be crucial. .

Primarily supporting the operational and tactical requirements of the Water Business Stream by using your technical or process experience, you will also provide support to the wider Water Optimisation Team and Water Business Stream in relation to the reduction of operating costs of the water system. The role will also support the development of the main Optimisation programmes of work in successful delivery of projects.

The role will also support the utilisation of new technologies and solutions to facilitate the efficient operation of our system and drive our journey to the more challenging ODI's, such as leakage.

What does it take to be a Senior Optimisation Operational Engineer?

  • Specialist or subject matter expert of a technical area and operational experience of water assets and systems from Source to tap

  • Strong technical knowledge of analysis technical, how to use geospatial information and various data modelling tools

  • Expert use of hydraulic modelling tools

  • Proven track record of identifying root cause and developing technical solutions

  • Experience of building and managing productive, credible business relationships

  • Able to challenge and collaborate constructively

  • Ability to understand and resolve problems quickly tackling cause not symptoms

  • Ability to deal with a range of stakeholders including external groups.

  • Works independently using own initiative

  • Can manage and prioritise their own and others workload

  • Resilient in a regular changing environment
