Job Description

Are you looking to make a difference in a business that is at the heart of the UK’s transition to Net Zero? Then there’s never been a more exciting time to join National Grid!

We are looking for a Senior Finance Business Partner to support National Grid’s new Strategic Infrastructure (SI) Business Unit.

In this role you’ll be right at the heart of delivering a multi-billion-pound portfolio of critical net zero infrastructure. You’ll be the central ‘go to’ for the CFO function, with a broad remit that has specific areas of accountability and the flexibility to lead and take on additional responsibilities as required.

This is an exciting yet challenging role, which for the right role holder will provide excellent director-level leadership responsibilities and the remit to develop strong networks at senior levels.

This role is based out of our Warwick office, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You’ll Do:
  • Business planning and performance – high quality, well understood long term forecasting is critical to the success of Strategic Infrastructure, given billions of pounds will be spent each year. This role will bring together those forecasts at a portfolio level, providing forwarding looking insight for exec and C-suite consumption.
  • Financial control and governance – function as the link between the business partnering team and other finance teams, to ensure numbers and performance is accurate and understood on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Business partnering supporting directorates – the directorates supporting project teams are critical to project success. They need business partnering support to ensure they can budget effectively, manage their costs, and ensure their spend is within the regulatory funding available.
  • Managing corporate centre – with such a high value and high-profile portfolio of projects, requests and interest from the corporate centre is inevitable. The role holder will need to build strong and proactive relationships with Group FP&A and Investor Relations to service and ideally pre-empt requests.
  • Solving problems and joining the dots – this is a central role

What You’ll Have:
  • Fully Qualified Accountant (member of CIMA, ACCA, or ACA).
  • Experience of working in a complex Finance Business Partnering role.
  • Understanding of working within a government environment or similar complex organisation.
  • Experience of working at senior leadership team level.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to think autonomously in the development of creative solutions to create financial value.
  • Strong commercial thinking ability
  • Demonstrated ability to predict outcomes and anticipate where issues will arise with delivery or stakeholders

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.

What You'll Get:

Up to £80,000 dependent on experience.

Plus:

  • Up to 20% Annual Bonus (based on personal and company performance)
  • 28 days annual leave, plus eight statutory days in addition
  • A full electric company car or cash alternative
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • The option to buy additional or sell holiday days every year
  • A generous contributory pension scheme - we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%
  • Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions – relevant to your role
  • Life Insurance 10 x base salary
  • Access to benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few
  • Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days)
  • Access to apps which support health, fitness, and wellbeing
