Job Description

Affinity Water is the UK's largest water-only supplier, providing high-quality water to over 3.9 million customers. As we strive to maintain and enhance our infrastructure, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Estimator to join our team. This role is crucial in supporting our projects by delivering accurate and efficient cost estimates that help secure profitable contracts and ensure projects are delivered within budget.

Role Overview:


As a Senior Estimator, you will play a key role in ensuring the consistent and professional management of cost engineering across all stages of our projects. You will be responsible for preparing analytical cost estimates, cost plans, and budgets, while identifying opportunities for cost optimisation and efficiency improvements. You will also collaborate closely with stakeholders, adjudicate contractor quotations, manage risk assessments, and develop estimating processes to ensure the success of each project.

This role is ideal for an experienced Estimator who is ready to elevate their skills and contribute to best practices in cost estimation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates, budgets, and cost plans for various projects.
  • Identify inefficiencies and cost optimisation opportunities using cost engineering techniques.
  • Adjudicate contractor quotations, manage technical queries, and present tenders to senior management.
  • Manage risk throughout the tender process, including the preparation of tender risk registers.
  • Implement and adhere to best practice estimating policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Assist in value engineering assessments and provide robust cost advice to support key business decisions.
  • Monitor, forecast, and control financial limits to ensure projects are delivered within budget.
  • Provide estimating input to performance reporting, risk and change assessments.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and ensure the quality and accuracy of all cost estimating artefacts.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience: Minimum 8 years of experience in a similar role, ideally within the construction or utilities industry.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of various contract forms, including traditional, partnering, design & build, and frameworks. Ability to interpret and translate technical data.
  • Analytical Skills: High attention to detail with the ability to manage and present numerical information accurately.
  • Results-Oriented: Organised, efficient, and capable of delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships internally and externally.

Desirable Skills:

  • Membership or working towards membership in a relevant professional body.
  • Proactive approach with strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the role.

Benefits:

  • Salary up to £67,000 dependent on skills and experience
  • Car allowance £4300,00 per annum
  • Hybrid role, with the expectations of a minimum two days a week in the office.
  • Hours of work: 37
