Job Purpose
To provide Electrical Engineering support including design and technical engineering advice to all areas of UU. You will work closely and maintain strong relationships with other disciplines and internal clients. You will be responsible for the line management of technical staff and technical outputs within your UU Engineering Discipline team, and you will support the development of engineers from across the business
Job Accountabilities
- Working closely and maintaining strong relationships with other disciplines and internal clients.
- Responsible for the delivery of a range of projects and providing technical engineering advice, including data gathering and analysis, design, preparation of documents, drawings, calculations, and specifications.
- Review of proposals produced by others and providing advice and responses to other team members.
- Areas of responsibility will include the capital programme, operational support, and studies & investigations.
- Responsible for the technical delivery of projects within budget and programme.
- Deputise for a Principal Engineer when requested.
- Raise the profile of UU technical leadership in the water industry and other sectors by submission of technical papers or assistance to STEM activities.
- Development & improvement of UU’s Engineering standards and procedures.
- Ensuring all activities are in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation and Accepted Practice, and ensuring all training and processes are adhered to.
- Adopt the role of Designer in accordance with CDM.
- To undertake all activities in accordance with an appropriate Quality Management System e.g. checked and verified calculations, drawings, specifications, and owner of specific United Utilities’ Company Standards.
- To maintain and develop their own Continued Professional Development (CPD), mentor, supervise and coach developing engineers from across the business.
- When directed by the Chief Electrical Engineer, to function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Able to communicate technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to share design concepts and ideas with experience in presenting technical papers.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment and encourage commitment in others to safety in all aspects of work.
- Required to work autonomously and as a member of a team.
- The ability to write clear, concise, accurate reports and specifications with measurable outputs, as well as the ability to promote these “best of breed” standards and designs to others.
- Exceptional understanding of UK technical policy, strategy, standards etc.
- Good knowledge of water, wastewater, and sludge treatment processes.
- Working knowledge of general arrangements for electrical equipment and the integration of these into building envelopes and site layouts.
- Delivering capital and strategic projects and providing operational support in the water industry or other sectors
Knowledge and Skills
• Chartered professional engineer or equivalent level of expertise.
• Demonstrating personal and professional management attributes and qualities commensurate with professional Chartership Status.
• Demonstration of leadership skills including, coaching, interpersonal communication, empowerment, and motivation consistent with UU leadership behaviours.
• Strong technical competence and leadership with an ability to influence technical solutions across the whole of UU with an awareness of process and construction risks analysis techniques.
• Have a good knowledge and experience of industry and company techniques and technologies for Instrument, Control & Automation (ICA) and detailed knowledge of HV & LV power distribution/utilisation.
• Experience in leading a successful discipline team in technical and commercial environments.
• Experience gained by delivering projects across the complete project lifecycle from Front End Engineering Design (FEED) through to detailed design, technical assurance, testing & commissioning and final project handover.
• Detailed knowledge and experience of company standards, procedures and technologies and have knowledge of operational environments, operator skill levels and operating cost implications of the proposed Engineering solutions.
• A working knowledge of the interfaces with other disciplines and the key interdependencies between disciplines.
• Knowledge and experience of process and construction risks analysis techniques such as ARM, HAZOP, HAZCON, HAZCOM.
