Job Description

Our Water Resources and Hydrogeology team, within the Water Resources and Environment Department is responsible for the wellbeing of our water resources by assessing and minimising the impact of our operations on the natural environment. We support compliance with regulatory obligations, undertake monitoring and analysis and liaise with external stakeholders on environmental matters.

For this role, you will act as a key member of the Water Resources and Hydrogeology team to undertake environmental monitoring, analysis, interpretation and reporting to support our Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) obligations and a variety of regulatory and operational needs.

You will work closely with our Water Quality, Asset Planning, Capital Delivery and Customer Delivery teams and provide support to more junior members of the team.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical support on hydrological and hydrogeological matters
  • Represent Affinity Water externally which will include giving public presentations, communicating with our regulators and other key stakeholders
  • Project manage a number of WINEP investigations and options appraisals including internal project delivery and supervision of consultants
  • Support development of our team of Asset Scientists and provide some line management support
  • Support to the Water Resources & Environment team including input to planning application assessments, Drought Management Plan & Water Resources Management Plan
  • Regulatory reporting under the WINEP and regular review meetings with the Environment Agency

Requirements: 

  • Qualified to at least MSc level (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline, with expertise in Chalk hydrogeology/hydrology 
  • 5+ years of experience in the water industry, consultancy or related industry
  • Experience of groundwater modelling desirable
  • Competent in the use of GIS mapping, data analysis and interpretation
  • An effective and articulate communicator both in written and oral form.
  • Ability to summarise technical information and effectively support briefing of senior leaders to support decision making
  • Strong understanding of geology and Chalk hydrogeology
  • Experienced at influencing and managing relationships (and managing stakeholder engagement)
  • Project Management experience desirable
  • Member of / affiliation to a chartered body desirable but not essential
