Job Purpose

 

It is critical to the success of the business that we comprehensively understand the risks to service in order to make the right decisions about where to target available resources, to achieve the best value for our customers. The Risk Analyst is the pivotal role coordinating the collation of these risks, and providing the governance to validate the quality of the evidence supporting these risks.

 

The primary purpose of the role is to objectively validate and consolidate all of the identified risks for the geographical area and asset base into a single location; to a standardised quality and format, so that decisions regarding the prioritisation of responses to these risks can be taken with confidence, and developed into Asset Management Plans by the Risk Managers.

 

 

Job Accountabilities

 
  • Own and maintain the Risk Register for the relevant asset base and geographic area of responsibility
  •                
  • Work closely with Operations and Engineering to validate the evidence for each risk and the quantification applied
  •                
  • Interrogate corporate asset and performance systems to identify and/or predict asset performance deterioration to discuss at Tier 2 and 3 meetings
  •                
  • Provide MI from the Risk Register to the Risk Managers for the Tier 3 meetings, to the Risk sponsors for Business Unit Risk Assessments (BURA), and for the County leadership teams as necessary
  •                
  • Provide governance for the Tier 1, 2 and 3 meetings measuring compliance with the Wholesale Risk and Asset Planning (WRAP) framework
  •                
  • Demonstrate compliance with the WRAP process by updating the status of risks in the Risk Register
  •                
  • On completion of asset intervention projects, update the Risk Register with the new Risk scores, working closely with the Risk Manager to confirm the benefits realised as a result of the mitigation
  •                
  • Work with the operational teams to identify training and guidance requirements for them where necessary
  •                
  • Peer review of Risk Analysts covering other areas and asset bases across the UU region to ensure best practice is shared, and risks are comparable across the region
  •                
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of this framework aligning it to the principles of ISO 55000 the International Standard for Asset Management best practice. The Asset Systems & Planning team will provide your technical home, strong relationships with this team are required to ensure that an objective approach is maintained
  •                
  • Contribute to the development of strategies and methodologies
  •                
  • Support the regulatory submission by maintaining a robust audit trail of evidence to substantiate the Asset Management Plans and investment decisions
  •                
  • Collate and analyse data to contribute to regulatory submissions to Ofwat and EA
  •                
  • Work with the Risk Manager to identify which risks need to be progressed through the IBP database
  •                
  • Support the development of business cases with Risk Analysis information
  •                
  • Represent the Risk Manager at meetings with stakeholders as necessary
 

Skills & experience

 
  • Relevant educational qualifications, normally a degree in a numerate or technical discipline
  •                
  • Ability to analyse data with good coordination and planning skills having a methodical mind-set and attention to detail
  •                
  • Communicate with a wide range of stakeholders to champion compliance with the WRAP framework
  •                
  • Be computer literate, be familiar with common computer software package such a Windows
  •                
  • Excellent skills manipulating large datasets using Excel, and databases is a prerequisite
