Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Public Affairs Team as a Public Affairs Manager! As a Public Affairs Manager, you will help support the public affairs team to cement Centrica's reputation as the Responsible Energy supplier and trusted market leader. You will also devise and deliver engagement campaigns which demonstrate Centrica's investment for long-term energy security and resilience and retain focus on sustainability goals. Very occasional travel to Windsor or London.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitor political events and parliamentary business and update colleagues on relevant events.

  • Building and maintaining British Gas' relationships with MPs, advisors and other political stakeholders, including mayoralty and local authority stakeholders, through regular face-to-face engagement, as well as email and phone communications.

  • Review casework correspondence from MPs and their teams and analyse casework trends.

  • Support on local engagement programmes, including VIP visits to our sites and assets. This may include regular travel to locations which host Centrica operational assets.

  • Collaborating with corporate affairs colleagues to create compelling campaigns, content and messaging to highlight Centrica's contribution to the green transition and its societal and community impact.

  • Assist with strategic briefings and intelligence for senior level colleagues on Government policy.

  • Represent the business, attend meetings on behalf of the public affairs team, including external visits to Parliament and to MP energy advice events (note this may involve some travel)

  • Provide support to colleagues across Corporate Affairs where needed.

Here's what we're looking for:

  • Experience within a political environment, either civil service, Parliament or an agency.

  • Demonstrable understanding of UK politics and parliament.

  • Drive and self-starter with growth mindset.

  • Demonstrates the required gravitas and influencing skills to support senior stakeholders.

  • Ability to pick up a brief (or multi briefs) quickly and move them forward.
