About the Role

To horizon scan, monitor, review and develop GT positions to potential and emerging policy development across the GB / EU regulatory and public policy environment, with a view of identifying future opportunities and impacts upon the GB gas market. Ensuring that Gas Transmissions positions are comprehensive, timely and enacted upon to influence policy outcomes. To aid this, development and maintenance of relevant and appropriate internal and external relationships is essential.


In Detail
Lead the horizon scanning of emerging GB and EU legislation and policy initiatives, understanding the impacts on the National Grid Gas Transmission (GT) business, GB/EU energy markets and GB consumers.

Coordinate the development and implementation of strategy positions for the business to emerging GB / EU legislation and policy initiatives, in line with our commitments to Net Zero, identifying and communicating related risks and opportunities. Ensure these are considered and well understood when key business decisions are made.

Support the development of GT positions on specific legislation and policy initiatives related to energy markets.

Provide intelligence to shape the influencing of GB / EU regulatory and public policy in order to have a positive outcome on the business and the wider gas market.

Coordinate the implementation of GB and EU stakeholder engagement plans to ensure a satisfactory outcome.

Represent the business externally on working groups and committees within the policy area. Representation at bodies such as European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG), Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) among others.

Shape policy frameworks and solutions, recommendations and stakeholder engagement plans to strengthen areas of strategic importance 

Lead on specific GT responses to regulatory or public consultations or a variety of research projects, particularly those that have a strong correlation with market development initiatives.

Develop, maintain and build external stakeholder relationships to build partnerships, representing GT externally

About You

Strong commercial and/or regulatory experience in the energy industry
Good understanding of the gas market in GB and EU, and the energy issues surrounding net zero
Knowledge of and curiosity in industry public policy issues
Excellent interpersonal skills (particularly in an external environment) especially in the areas of influencing,
negotiating and building effective working relationships
Experience in development of influential and effective regulatory or energy policy frameworks, preferably with
application in a commercial context
Ability to work collaboratively and constructively with project partners to draft and present clear, concise and
compelling strategic analysis and recommendations for senior management and external stakeholders
Experience of managing and influencing to achieve positive outcomes, preferably in a regulatory or policy
environment, and experience with working with government parties
Proven experience of project management and organisational skills, ability to simultaneously manage and
prioritise multiple issues and optimise the use of resource, including with a virtual team
Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
