Job Description

The Performance Insight Lead will play a pivotal role in the Technology and Transformation Directorate, specifically within the Business Performance and Insight department. This role focuses on leading the reporting and insight generation of our environmental performance commitments. 

The ideal candidate will drive the automation of reporting processes, serve as a business partner to relevant steering groups and associated teams, and influence business decisions through data-driven recommendations;  using data to dig beneath headline numbers to find out what drives performance and generate insights to make a real difference to our customers, colleagues and the environment. This role is essential for connecting our data with our performance and effectively communicating insights to colleagues and stakeholders

This role will offer the opportunity to develop a new approach to our environmental performance reporting across our business and work with leaders across the business to shape our environmental performance strategies.

You will work with colleagues to create automated reporting, enabling the deployment of emerging technology such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Principle Accountabilities 

  • Performance Reporting: Ensure consistent, high-quality, and trusted internal and external performance reporting for performance commitments, updating scorecards and dashboards.
  • KPI Management: Maintain high-quality internal performance reporting for critical lead and lag measures/KPIs.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause analysis of performance and generate high-value insights.
  • Performance Recommendations: Provide actionable recommendations to performance managers and corporate governance bodies.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously improve performance reporting, analysis, and insight processes, focusing on lean and automated reporting.
  • Data Integration: Provide adjacent data, analysis, and insights to manage operational processes where appropriate.
  • Dashboard Requirements: Create requirements for Qlik dashboards for use across the business.
  • Collaboration: Work with colleagues across the business to automate performance reporting.
  • Data Governance: Engage with our developing data governance framework.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead cross-functional efforts for relevant performance measures.
  • Role Modeling: Embody and promote our purpose, vision, and values.
  • KPI Reporting Processes: Work with subject matter experts to ensure timely and accurate KPI data availability and document the overall KPI reporting processes.
  • Change Management: Challenge existing processes, propose efficiencies, and identify the best short-term solutions for KPI capture and reporting, with a long-term transition to Qlik.
  • Annual Performance Report: Contribute significantly to the Annual Performance Report (APR) process and delivery.

Success Measures

  • Timely updates of scorecards and dashboards.
  • Mapping of process steps for viable KPIs.
  • Regular tracking, updating, and reporting of project plans and timelines.
  • Delivery of process improvements within available capability and resources.
  • Centralised capture of new KPIs or Leading Measures for performance commitments.
  • Well-defined Qlik dashboard and scorecard requirements.
  • Accurate mapping of new requirements.


Organisational Structure 

This new role reports to the Head of Business Performance and Insight. You will develop work across business areas in collaboration with stakeholders, working as One Team. The role includes assessing the need to create a team to support environmental performance reporting and insight generation across performance commitments and measures.

Experience required 

  • Educated to degree level
  • Experience in data analysis
  • Knowledge and experience in assessing and improving data quality
  • Experience in delivering change
  • Detailed knowledge of business process mapping
  • Experience in building and managing improvement plans
  • Development of performance metrics (KPIs, Leading Measures)
  • Experience in the water and/or utility industry
  • Knowledge of performance forecasting and tracking
  • Presentation skills and experience leading workshops
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Change management experience (Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent)
  • Detailed knowledge of data mapping

  • Salary £60-70,000
  • £4300 cash car allowance
  • Hybrid working: The role can be based at any business location by agreement, with the expectation of travel within our sites. Anticipated 40% of work being remote.
