Job Purpose

 

To provide a comprehensive strategic People service to a Business Division(s) and leading and delivering discreet People projects. To act as a true strategic partner pulling on specialist functions to ensure that operational people initiatives are met and delivered to a high standard. To develop and enable execution of people plans aligned to operational delivery of strategic business initiatives and plans. Scope of role includes organisational design and people change, employee relations, talent management and succession planning, recruitment and selection, and learning and development.

 

Job Accountabilities

 
  • Is a trusted adviser through creation and maintenance of excellent relationships with leadership team in area of accountability
  •            
  • Provide the necessary challenge and influence on people issues by understanding the business strategy and priorities.
  •            
  • Contribute to business plan production for the business function ensuring that the people plans and business plans are aligned.
  •            
  • Identifies options for meeting the goals of the function through People initiatives.
  •            
  • Understand new developments and thinking in People best practice, innovative approaches and shares these with the business function to provide valuable insight into the development of business plans and strategies.
  •            
  • Responsible for developing and implementing People plans that will enable the business to achieve its strategic goals and will engage wider resources in People such as Business Change, Reward and Employee Communications to support execution.
  •            
  • Work with specialist People functions to ensure that company- wide initiatives are delivered to a high standard within own business areas e.g. Reward project.
  •            
  • Coach and guide managers to develop leadership capability, maximise employee potential and promote career development via UU internal processes such as OCR, performance management and succession planning.
  •            
  • Coaches, provides advice and influences leaders on complex employee relations issues.
  •            
  • Facilitate good working relationships between local TU reps and business leaders to enable the delivery of BAU and strategic people change project activity.

  • Responsible for individual strategic People initiatives/projects as required
 

Knowledge and Skills

 
  • Graduate calibre and fully qualified chartered member of CIPD (or equivalent)
  •            
  • Commercially aware with a proven People Business Partner background at a senior business leadership level.
  •            
  • Experience in leading major business change projects with significant people impact
  •            
  • Strong technical ER knowledge and consultation experience preferably in a TU environment
  •            
  • Sound financial and commercial awareness
  •            
  • In depth knowledge of best practice People concepts and processes.
  •            
  • The ability to work autonomously, as well as part of a team; confident in managing relationships at all levels.
  •            
  • Possess excellent leadership and communication skills - credible at senior level
  •            
  • Ability to operate at a strategic level.
  •            
  • Ability to work under pressure and comfortable with ambiguity
  •            
  • Ability to lead, motivate and drive people with experience of managing people
  •            
  • Highly developed influencing skills; confidence to question management about actions/decisions
  •
