About the role

OT Security Engineer, Permanent

We have a fabulous opportunity for an Operational Technology (OT) Security Engineer role to join our IT Security function.

The OT Security Engineer will be responsible for supporting the development of Operational Technology (OT) Security products and solutions across National Grid’s operational businesses to support the mitigation of operational cyber risk. 

Initially, there will be a focus on supporting the roll-out, configuration and baselining of OT Cyber alerts in National Grid’s new strategic OT Network Introduction Detection solution, and then the focus will move to the day-to-day management of OT network intrusion detection systems and baselining activity for National Grid’s operational technology environments.

About you


You will have experience with large-scale management information systems, preferably those used in Operational Technology settings or Operations Control Centres, and knowledge of the principles and practices of Electrical or Gas engineering field and site procedures. 

You’ll have knowledge of P&C and DCS systems as applied in electricity and gas transmission, and experience in testing, with the ability to define and deliver services to internal and external customers, achieving excellent customer satisfaction. 

The role will involve close liaison with wider Security Teams and National Grid system owners to ensure that newly-installed OT intrusion detection systems are onboarded on time and in line with operational quality standards, so engagement with business stakeholders to ensure customer requirements are met and all OT security products meet quality are key.

Ideally, you will have a combination of demonstrable experience working in Substation Automation or Gas Engineering and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying (ideally HNC/HND in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent certification from an accredited college.

What you'll get


A salary between £33,900 - £39,940

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
