Job Description

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work at our Reading STW site.
As The Successful Candidate, You will be carrying out planned maintenance on all our Mechanical assets on our various sites. This role will involve at times, fault finding, diagnosing, and fixing critical asset failures.
What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical Technician
  • Working on various pumps, involved in sewage transfer within sewage treatment works as well as smaller chemical dosing pumps and all other mechanical assets on the sewage treatment works.
  • Investigating mechanical plant failures and carrying out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions for our customers. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents. Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical equipment in compliance with company standards and procedures to improve plant resilience.
  • Providing technical advice to the wider team, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and providing training or support for technical trainees if required.
  • Participation in a 24/7 out-of-hours standby Rota will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment.
  • Although based in Reading you will be expected to travel to other sites as and when required.
  • Base Location: Reading STW - RG2 0RP.
  • Working Pattern or hours: 38 Hours Monday-Friday plus the inclusion onto a standby rota for which you will receive additional payment.
What you should bring to the role
  • A time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical systems. With NVQ or C&G, level 3 in mechanical engineering an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is essential.
  • Experience working on large industrial plant equipment including various pumps within the utility industry would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential.
  • A valid driving license is essential and all necessary equipment such as vehicles and tools are provided.
