Description

We are looking for a dedicated Mechanical Build Engineer to join Channel Design Consultants in Guernsey. In this role, you will develop and lead projects in the field of building mechanical services engineering and, when required, act as a build Team Leader.

Working under your supervisor's mentorship, you will deliver high-quality engineering builds. You will meet project deadlines and ensure work follows company standards, industry regulations, and established protocols. You will specialise in building engineering focusing on mechanical systems and will be supported in developing a clear career progression pathway.

This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects, use industry-leading design tools, and play an important part in creating safe, efficient, and high-performing building environments.



Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver compositions for building mechanical systems, including calculations, technical reports, and specifications aligned with British Standards, CiPHE, CIBSE, and relevant regulations.
  • Produce 2D CAD layouts, schematics, mechanical specifications, and tender documentation.
  • Design systems including hot and cold-water services, heating, ventilation, above-ground drainage, air conditioning, ASHP/GSHP, BMS controls, and ensure coordination with other building services.
  • Allocate tasks to trainee or graduate engineers to support on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Agree project scope, deliverables, and timelines with your Line Manager.
  • Develop high-quality concept, feasibility, and detailed designs, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation.
  • Conduct site surveys, inspections, progress reviews, snagging visits, and produce clear written reports.
  • Deliver all work in line with company Quality Assurance processes, industry standards, and project fee constraints.
  • Collaborate with the wider Design Team to produce coordinated and compliant designs.
  • Prepare budget cost projections, tender summaries, and analyse contractor returns and variations.
  • Lead and sign off contractor tender submissions and variations.
  • Implement company risk assessments and method statements.
  • Stay up to date with industry best practice, technology advances, and undertake regular CPD.



Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise:
  • Flexible, proactive, and a strong team player.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management capability.
  • Ideally proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Dialux, 2D AutoCAD, 3D Revit (BIM), IES, SketchUp, and other relevant design software.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Proven experience delivering mechanical building services projects from conception to completion.
Qualifications:
  • 2:1 bachelor's degree in building or Related Services Engineering - desirable but not essential. 
  • Plumbing & Domestic Heating NVQ Level 3 certified through City & Guilds
  • Level 3 NVQ certification from City & Guilds in HVAC, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning
  • Professional, approachable, respectful, and thoughtful.
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Insightful, self aware, and able to build strong relationships.
