LGV Tanker Driver Modern Apprentice

As an apprentice at Scottish Water you’ll be joining one of Scotland’s most critical businesses and be part of the team delivering an essential transportation service from both Water and Wastewater treatment sites whilst also delivering a private septic tank service.

As part of our commitment to talent development we are now accepting applications for our 2021 Apprentice Programme which commences in August 2021 for you to join as a Large Good Vehicle Tanker Driver Modern Apprentice

based in Inverness.


What will you be doing?


During this new 2-year programme you will work toward achieving a SVQ Level 3 in Driving Goods Vehicles and learn everything you need to know about the transportation service we provide. This means most of your days will be spent outdoors, on our operational sites - working as part of an experienced tanker team. Our experienced teams will support you to develop your skills and knowledge and achieve a nationally recognised qualification. This is your chance to learn as you earn, working with industry-leading teams to help deliver services that are essential to the daily lives of the people of Scotland.


On the LGV Tanker Driver Modern Apprentice Programme you will learn how to:

  • Plan and prioritise your work whilst maintaining a flexible approach to accommodate changing priorities.

  • Have a strong focus on protection of the environment by following good working practice.

  • To build trust and credibility with customers who you interact with, acting as an ambassador for Scottish Water.

  • Be a strong team player, who can work well with others to achieve common goals and have a willingness to learn from others.

  • Be digitally skilled in order to use mobile applications for essential parts of daily duties.

  • Operate Large Goods Vehicles (HGV’s), complete and record pre use vehicle checks in line with legislative and company specific requirements

  • Record and report vehicle defects

  • Learn and understand legislative drivers’ hours & tachograph rules

  • Undertake assessments and relevant refresher training


Who are we looking for?


We’re looking for people who are self-motivated, team players who enjoy being outdoors. You should be practical, well organised and a good problem solver with a positive attitude and the ability to work on your own initiative. You’ll have five National 4 or 5 Qualifications (English, Maths and Science are advantageous but not essential) A full UK driving licence is essential for this role as you’ll typically be working across a number of our sites. You must also be willing to apply to the DVLA for the driving licence category required to perform this role.
