Purpose

As a Lead Operational Trader, you are required to optimise short term trading activities for ScottishPower Renewables and the ScottishPower Customer Business.  This role is in a 24/7 team of Operational Traders who provide a route to market for wind and battery assets across the ScottishPower group.

Responsibilities

You will lead the optimisation of short-term exposures in conjunction with the Operational Trading analytical team to minimise costs and maximise income from short term Renewables production and Customer business demand.  You will arbitrage electricity exposures between day ahead and intra-day auctions, half hourly spot markets as well as manage pricing for Balancing Services.

You will also be responsible for:

Hedging

  • Executing and optimising short term trading strategies through day ahead auctions, intra-day auctions and spot power markets.

Balancing Services

  • Taking an active role in the implementation of initiatives which create value from the Balancing Services markets for ScottishPower assets.

  • Developing trading models in conjunction with the Operational Trading analytical team.

Regulatory Obligations

  • Ensuring that all relevant licence conditions and risk limits are complied with at all times

Internal and External Influencing

  • Developing relationships with our internal and external stakeholders to maximise opportunities from short-term energy markets.

What you'll bring

Educated to degree standard within a relevant field of study (Mathematics, Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering) you will have the ability to develop a detailed understanding of balancing markets and short-term electricity markets.

A working knowledge of data management, including database and spreadsheet applications with the ability to use complex models and specialised computer applications is advantageous.
