The role of Lead Project Engineer (Electrical) reports to the UK  Head of Technical Services and sits within Global Services Operations Electrical  Engineering team. The role focusses on providing electrical engineering support to Iberdrola Renewables Business Units (Iberia, International, UK ), on electrical matters relating to operational generating assets. 

You will be the lead electrical technical expert within a team of engineers responsible for the resolution of complex technical issues affecting the global generation fleet ( 14,000MW), including battery storage, PV plants and  wind turbines . You will lead the delivery of engineering advice to the business, to manage and resolve electrical problems. 

Developing and maintaining an effective relationship between the UK onshore and offshore Operations Business and Global Technical Services will be key to this role. 

 

What you'll be doing 

  • Lead a small team of Senior Electrical engineers to provide expert support to the global renewables business (UK, Spain, USA, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, France, Australia, Greece, etc.) for the operational portfolio of onshore and offshore wind turbines, solar plants, battery energy storage systems, Report to the UK Head of Technical Services and Iberdrola's Global Technical Services of key projects 

  • Lead technical decision making relating to asset modifications to ensure safety, reliability and improved performance whilst minimising risk 

  • Lead root cause investigations of  electrical component failures and develop  robust technical solutions across a range of  assets including transformer, switchgear, generators, and converters/inverters.  

  • Effectively manage the team to ensure sound engineering support to O&M, prioritising team workload and setting technical direction 

  • Proactively lead the analysis and investigations of electrical problems relating to wind turbines   (onshore and offshore) , solar sites and Battery Energy Storage systems to support optimal operation 

  • Analyse and modify electrical equipment maintenance plans and provide technical support to the O&M for electrical equipment. 

  • Technical evaluation   of the potential acquisitions (operational  wind farms or photovoltaic plant) s in operation. 

  • Create technical specifications of electrical equipment (transformers, generators, switchgear  etc.) and   operational asset procedures to manage risk and minimise failure recurrence 

  • On behalf of ScottishPower Renewables, lead engagement with OEMs to manage technical risks and overall performance of generating assets. 

 

What you'll bring 

  • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree. 

  • Ability to analyse technical problems of electrical components, providing creative solutions when required. 

  • Applied experience of British and IEC electrical standards and regulations 

  • Significant experience (+5years)  of Renewables / Power Generation industry, in particular experience of wind turbine LV systems 

  • Significant experience of managing electrical engineering issues in wind turbines
