As a Land Manager, you'll lead a team of Land Officers and Suppliers to deliver access to facilitate a wide range of maintenance and capital works on existing National Grid assets, both overhead and underground, and provide expert advice and support to Asset Operations (AO) teams. Our electricity assets include overhead lines, pylons, underground cables, and transmission substations, with innovation and technology enabling us to operate more efficiently, reliably, and safely every day.

Our Access to Land team play a pivotal role in delivering The Great Grid Upgrade . Our teams are dedicated to securing land access rights, negotiating with landowners, and navigating complex compensation settlements, without which it wouldn't be possible to build and maintain our future Grid. It's no small feat - and we need the best to join us in our mission.

This role welcomes applicants UK wide, and we offer hybrid working from office and home. You'll be flexible to weekly travel throughout England and Wales as required. You'll also have a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK.

Key accountabilities

• Lead and support a team of Land Officers to drive forward the delivery of land access across a wide portfolio of projects from development to delivery to AO desired programme.
• Report on programme, key milestone delivery, risk, contract and financial management on a regular basis. This includes being able to identify and distil complex land issues in a succinct and clear way in regular reports to the SI leadership team and ET/SI Project Directors.
• Ensure work is delivered in accordance with National Grid's policies, processes and frameworks for the acquisition of land and land rights.
• Undertake long term work planning and ensure project resource requirements are identified, recruited and sufficiently trained ahead of need whilst minimising the risk of being over-resourced.
• Support National Grid's safety culture and show visible leadership to ensure that safety is foremost in all activities.
• Manage the supply chain in the delivery of the required workstreams.

About you

• Excellent interpersonal, influencing and communication skills to ensure effective engagement with all relevant stakeholders (internally and externally).
• Experience of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams (engineering, legal, consenting) to support overall project delivery.
• Experience of providing project and contract management services.
• Experience of managing (or willingness to develop relevant skills) a diverse, geographically dispersed team to deliver a productive and sustainable work environment.
• Experience of analysing data from a variety of sources and using this to support business decisions.

Desirable:

• Technical understanding, knowledge and experience of the legal and regulatory parameters that statutory undertakers work within, including the range of statutory powers available, understanding how these then relate to the relevant project strategy and approach.
• Good working knowledge of the Electricity Act 1989 and the different types of voluntary land agreements used to secure National Grid assets or equivalent.
