Affinity Water has a fantastic opportunity for a Internal Comms & Engagement Exec to join our Comms team on a 12 month fixed-term contract.

As a key member of the internal communications team, you will play a pivotal role in translating corporate strategy into meaningful colleague communications that join the dots for our colleagues about what is happening across the business and the key role they play.

The Role:

Our internal communications strategy is closely aligned to activities that make the most impact on emotional commitment as this helps to drive performance, productivity, and retention - you will have a key role in delivering these activities. You will need to be a self-starter who loves writing compelling stories that highlight the successes of your colleagues and showcase the great things that we do as a business. You will understand your audiences and be able to choose and adapt these stories for a range of mediums such as video, articles and presentations. You will have fabulous writing skills and an eye for what makes a great picture. You will help to improve our employee voice by focusing targeted communications on the issues that really matter to our colleagues. You will own' some regular tasks that you can build and develop, but we need someone who is versatile, flexible and loves a challenge - as no two days are the same. We will provide training on our core systems, but you will need to have a great knowledge of Office 365 and Premier Pro or other digital packages would be beneficial.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source, draft and edit compelling stories for a range of internal comms channels.
  • Support the organisation of range of company events relating to employee engagement.
  • Produce our weekly round up of articles from across the business.
  • Manage our monthly internal communications and engagement metrics dashboard.
  • Look after the home page of the intranet and work with content providers helping them to communicate what they do and the policies and processes they look after.
  • Deliver planned communications to time / budget and through the appropriate channels.
  • Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organisation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Help to deliver the Affinity Water internal communications and engagement strategy as a key member of the team and support the range of activities across our directorates.
  • Perform all other duties as are necessary for the effective execution of their duties and other duties as directed by the Head of Internal Communications and Engagement.
  • To champion data quality and integrity in Operations, providing coaching and support to regional colleagues involved in data entry or capture

Key skills / individual requirements: 

  • Ability to produce compelling copy for a range of internal communication channels.
  • An understanding of audience engagement and targeting.
  • Experience in engaging audiences and making complex topics easy to understand.
  • High level of interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal with individuals at all levels.
  • Creative thinker who can translate ideas / requirements into engaging digital content.
  • Good interpersonal and networking skills, proven team player.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering digital content including storyboarding, writing scripts, planning, executing and editing.
  • Ability to schedule work and deliver to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to help organise and attend the occasional events outside of work hours.
  • Driving licence required.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience delivering successful and engaging communication plans.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills and ability to write compelling, accurate and concise material for a range of internal audiences.
  • Experience of utilising feedback to facilitate improved employee engagement.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 programmes including Teams, SharePoint & Powerpoint.
  • Extensive knowledge of communications channels and how best to use them.

  • Salary £24,000
  • Hybrid working - a minimum of 2 days per week (subject to job role)
