About the role
The Innovation Partnership Manager will research, develop, pilot and champion new initiatives and products with our partner organisations to maximise business results within NWG and the wider sector. You’ll conduct customer research, and work with key stakeholders across business and technology to develop and convey a roadmap of innovative solutions to business problems. We’re looking for you to pull on NWG resources to harvest new ideas from the entire talent pool to deliver and sustain the end-to-end customer experience.
You’ll be responsible for creating bid documentation, directed by the Head of Innovation, to successfully compete for additional funding from the annual OFWAT Innovation Competition. You’ll be expected to work closely with other Water and Wastewater companies, their supply chain (including small and medium-sized enterprises), other innovators, and stakeholders in preparing their bids for the competition.
We’re looking for you to work together with other water companies to develop a joint innovation strategy and to consider how best to coordinate existing and future innovation activities, for example through an innovation in water centre of excellence. You’ll also work closely with OFWAT’s ‘one stop shop’ which provides informal regulatory advice to anyone looking to get innovations off the ground in the water sector.
You’ll ensure that the business achieves maximum value for money from research, development and engineering effort and prioritises the most valuable features to deliver maximum benefit early, along with continually evaluating the market and reviewing priorities to quickly react to changes in priorities, customer feedback, new technology, disruptive technologies and business needs. You’ll also work with our Partner organisations to understand the latest developments and understand how these could benefit the landscape of NWG.
We’re looking for you to have a comprehensive understanding of how innovation contributes to achieving the objectives of the business unit, along with a very good working knowledge of the industry in order to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business unit.
You’ll need a broad and deep understanding of the NWL business and wider related Industry and you’ll be considered a “guru” and recognised for your technical expertise, even beyond the business unit itself. You’ll have proven experience of acting as an ambassador in liaising and presenting ideas, proposals and solutions to wider communities and industries.
We’re looking for you to have proven communication skills and the ability to negotiate with a high level of discretion (internally & externally) with others often at a senior level. You’ll have proven experience of devising initiatives which may cross traditional company boundaries for the benefit of the wider utilities sector or local communities, along with the proven capability of building relationships with a diverse set of business and industry stakeholders.
You’ll have strong Influencing, Collaboration and Leadership skills and have the proven ability to secure funding for delivery through a business case, along with prioritising spending based on return on investment (ROI) and strategic intent; this may include contract ownership and accountability for realisation of benefits.
