About Gas System Operations


Here in System Operations, we are at the heart of the real-time operational control of the high-pressure Gas National Transmission System (NTS) in Great Britain and facilitation of the efficient operation of the GB gas market in accordance with our regulatory and contractual obligations. We provide our customers with system capacity and flexibility, critical information and data enabling them to make effective decisions for their businesses. We successfully manage the flow of gas through 8,000 km of high-pressure pipework, 500 remote sites and 24 compressor locations to ensure gas is safely delivered to over 20 million homes and industrial consumers.


We need people to play key roles within our team, a team that is fundamental to the success of our UK Gas Transmission and System Operator businesses.


About the Role


As Incentive Performance & Development Manager, your role will be to lead on the development and performance of the Gas Transmission incentive arrangements, processes, frameworks and investment need cases, securing resource and accountability across the business as appropriate, enabling the road to net zero.


Being directly accountable for Green House Gas Emissions (GHG) and demand forecasting incentive performance and the associated tools, rules, processes, systems and compliance with obligations, you will provide demand forecasting expertise from the team to input into the development of future demand and supply forecast models, data science/analytics and commercial frameworks. This will focus on improving demand and supply forecasting capability and maximise consumer value and incentive returns to the processes reliant on accurate supply and demand forecasting. 


You will be required to challenge, review and develop commercial strategies working closely with the incentive owners, lead and manage incentive reviews and industry consultations as required, building strong customer and stakeholder relationships and engagement strategies. Ensuring incentive regulatory and commercial obligations are met, including regulatory reporting, you will hold incentive owners to account through internal governance processes and budget tracking. You will be the department interface with the regulator and build strong constructive working relations to deliver the best outcomes. 


Additional/broader responsibilities within the department will include undertaking duty officer roles, as required within the leadership team, on a within and out of hours rota basis for which you will be given the necessary training and requirements. These roles include Duty Officer, Incident Controller and Network Emergency Coordinator (NEC) Officer. 


About You


We're looking for someone who...

  • Has well-developed communication abilities, with a strong emphasis on influencing/negotiating skills and is comfortable working with and constructively challenging senior executive stakeholders when required. 
  • Can manage resources and people effectively and proactively in line with budget, best practices, frameworks and procedures. 
  • Has experience in managing teams of technical experts, team building and career development with the ability to motivate, counsel, coach and develop direct reports and others. 
  • Has experience in establishing clearly defined goals and standards of employee performance. 


Technical/Specialist Knowledge Required:

  • Commercially astute with demonstrable experience in negotiating contracts, meeting contractual obligations and delivering to agreed outputs. 
  • Have an understanding of quantitative analysis and risk management principles.
  • Experience in working with customers and stakeholders on technical and compliance issues in commercial and operational environments. 
  • Demonstrable experience in planning, setting and executing commercial strategies and investment need cases. 
  • Experience in working with regulatory bodies. 


Knowledge of the Gas Transmission business, its operation and associated statutory/commercial obligations and of commercial and incentive regimes associated with gas transmission operations is desirable but not essential.
