Job Purpose

The Engineering Team within COO is responsible for implementing the Engineering Framework (Competence, Compliance, Legislation, Policy & Procedure) and ensuring that the assets of the Company are fit for purpose by providing technical support to the business.


The Gas Quality and Measurement (GQ&M) Engineer provides support to the Gas Quality and Measurement Senior Engineers and the wider GQ&M team to manage compliance of measurement associated with calorific value measurement, high pressure metering systems and local gas treatment (odorisation) at our offtakes.

Key Responsibilities

As a Gas Quality and Measurement Engineer, you will support the Senior Engineers by providing technical knowledge and guidance to assist the engineering teams in resolving complex issues pertaining to measurement and gas quality assets.

With the guidance of Senior Engineers we want you to develop the skills to analyse datasets to determine compliance with associated regulations, including fault finding of instrumented systems.

With the support of the Senior Engineers you will undertake design reviews and develop management strategies for associated assets, as well as provide technical support in relation to project work managed by other departments within the business.

You will be operating within a discipline specific team to achieve business objectives, plans and targets to enhance performance, condition, records and demonstrate compliance with statutory requirements.

You will develop and manage processes to ensure compliance with the Gas Calculation of Thermal Energy Regulations, Gas Safety Management Regulations , Uniform Network Code and associated aspects of the Safety Case.

You will provide support to the Senior Engineers in the revision, development, support and implementation of engineering standards and risk assessments for the engineering area to fulfil statutory, license and regulatory obligations against business objectives.

Skills and Experience

  • Educated to Degree level or experience equivalent
  • Track record in managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of working with gas quality and high pressure gas metering technologies desirable
  • Experienced in designing and delivering solutions and good project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet challenging deadlines & demonstrated ability to drive change
  • Knowledge and understanding of the safe and secure operation of computer and instrumentation measurement systems ideally in use with natural gas.
  • Sound working knowledge of Cadent or gas industry safety and engineering policies, procedures and standards, particularly for the Management of New Works, Modification and Repairs. If not familiar with Company specific requirements, a demonstrable ability to assimilate and develop understanding of engineering policies and procedures and requirements.
