FYLD Product Owner -12-month Fixed Term Contract / Secondment


Location: Southern - Travel between SGN sites required in addition to attendance at FYLD's development base in central London.

We have an exciting opportunity for two Product Owners to join SGN's Business Solutions team.  You will join the team as SGN enters into an exciting new Innovation Partnership with FYLD.  FYLD are a start-up technology company who are focussed on transforming the way field operations are run by utility companies.  SGN have already completed two successful projects with FYLD - new video risk assessments and Fatigue Manager.  We want to build on this success by using the power of data, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning from our partners at FYLD to improve the experience of our field-based colleagues.  The Product Manager will be key to ensuring the needs of our field-based colleagues are represented when solutions are being developed.  The successful candidates will report to the FYLD Relationship Manager at SGN but will work closely with teams across SGN and with FYLD.

Key responsibilities will include;


  • Manage roadmaps, manage the backlog, and deliver associated business outcomes
  • Identify new opportunities for the FYLD product and facilitate exploration and experimentation to assess whether these are taken forward
  • Manage investment approval and benefit realisation via the agreed FYLD Governance Structure
  • Manage project lifecycle documentation including but not limited to, business case and CBA material, user stories, project management, adoption and training documentation
  • Manage finances where relevant
  • Work with the FYLD Relationship Manager to ensure plans and benefits are included in overarching governance and reporting forums
  • Work with FYLD to produce Case Study material
  • Manage successful implementation of use cases at scale across the business
  • Mobilise resources as required to enable successful implementation of use cases externally and across the business, including but not limited to, FYLD, IT, Business Units, Training, Policy and Change Management

  • Proven experience working either within product development or digital implementation role
  • A sound understanding of budgetary procedures
  • A sound understanding of Business Case Development and investment approval processes.
  • A sound understanding of Release Management and IT Product Lifecycle.
  • Understanding and experience of Agile delivery and implementation methods
  • A sound understanding of change management and adoption management processes inc. benefits realisation
  • Experience of managing stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience of working in an industry with a geographically dispersed field force, delivering safety critical work
  • Experience of working in or closely with an operational environment
  • A sound understanding of the utilities industry in particular Gas Distribution
  • An understanding of what is required to work in a heavily regulated and unionised environment


This post will involve an element of travel between SGN sites and to FYLD's office in central London; therefore, a full valid driving license is essential.
