The FutureGrid Programme


To achieve our commitment to reaching net zero by 2050, we need to consider how we can deliver low carbon energy reliably and safely to all consumers.


One route we are exploring is through our FutureGrid programme. FutureGrid aims to demonstrate how we can re-purpose our existing National gas transmission system to enable it to transport hydrogen. We will do this by building an offline hydrogen test facility at DNV-GL’s research facility at Spadeadam in Cumbria.

About the Role


We have an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager to join National Grid Gas to work on the FutureGrid Programme. 


As the FutureGrid Project Manager, you will work with DNV-GL Delivery Units, GT Engineering, HSE, GT Operations and the other Project Partners (Fluxys, Northern Gas Networks, Durham University and University of Edinburgh) to effectively manage the Phase 1 NIC Project of the FutureGrid Programme.  


In this role, you will ensure all stakeholders are aware of their responsibilities in the project, monitor and drive performance against plan and report the project financial and timeline progress to the relevant steering groups and Ofgem teams.

About You


We’re looking for someone who has knowledge/experience in:

  • Project planning/project management;
  • Planning processes across all work types;
  • Risk management;
  • Budget control and management;
  • Work management systems;
  • Developing and managing resource requirements and plans, formulating robust work plans and appropriately debating/challenging conflicting views.


You will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Prioritise conflicts in real time;
  • Effectively communicate complex issues and their resolutions;
  • Multi-task and prioritise workloads in a high paced environment and to tight deadlines;
  • Adapt positively to change;
  • Deliver projects efficiently and effectively, in a timely and safe manner, leading and managing cross-functional teams.


It is essential that you hold a full UK driving licence and have a minimum of HNC (GNVQ level 3) qualification, preferably in an engineering discipline or the relevant experience in a previous role. 


Prior experience in Hydrogen or Methane Gas Network projects is desirable
