An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Policy Specialist to join our Engineering team.

You will produce and manage the business’s Environmental Action Plan that is required to meet our business plan commitments by development of initiatives and working with initiative owners across the business.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be accountable for:

•Ownership of our Environmental Action Plan (EAP) and the associated regulatory commitments
•Co-ordinating the delivery of the initiatives across the EAP
•Monitoring and reporting of environmental performance data and provision of management information to key stakeholders
•Monitoring of changes to environmental legislation
•Analysis of future decarbonisation and environmental protection requirements
•Monitoring environmental performance and compliance
•Development and appraisal of environmental policies and strategies that serve current and future business needs
•Development of the environmental management system
•Develop and maintain internal environmental codes of practises and standards
•Lead stakeholder engagement on environmental performance and improvement initiatives
•Represent Northern Powergrid at relevant industry events

Key Competencies

•Comprehensive knowledge of environmental legislation and how it applies to the utilities industry
•A detailed knowledge of decarbonisation and Green House Gas reporting
•Knowledge of waste management and waste reduction techniques
•An understanding of biodiversity, net gain and natural capital
•A detailed working knowledge of ISO 14001
•Strong decision-making skills
•Ability to lead and direct key internal and external stakeholders
•Able to deliver quality outputs to required deadlines
•Excellent verbal and written skills
•Excellent IT literacy and data analysis skills
•Time management skills – ability to link plans to the long-term goals

Qualifications and Attributes

Essential Qualifications and Experience

·Education to a degree level preferably in Environmental Management or similar but other disciplines will be considered
·Proven experience in the Utilities industry incorporating an installed asset based with an age profile spread over several decades
·Experience applying health, safety and environmental methodologies, strategies and routines to ensure legal and regulatory compliance
·Experience analysing and presenting statistical data

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

•Full member of relevant governing body, ideally charted
•Experience in one or more of these areas;
•Leadership
•Developing and managing information gathering and consultation processes
•Knowledge of distribution transformers, switchgear and fluid filled cables
•Use of enhances analytical tools such as Power BI
