Key Responsibilities

As the Environment Specialist, you will be assisting the Environment Manager and Environment team in compliance with the environmental management system, legislation compliance and data reporting. To complete trend analysis of environmental data and assisting in the overall environmental strategy across the networks and business functions.

The role will communicate environmental advice and guidance to the business on all environmental issues and associated risks. This will include the creation and updating of key environmental management standards whilst maintaining the management system to ISO 14001.

You'll be identifying key areas of improvement following analysis of environmental data from site visits and externally available information and to work with the business to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in relation to the SHES environmental strategy. Supporting on environmental projects and on site or project environmental matters, advising stakeholders on compliance, legislation and Cadent's environmental targets to achieve our short- and long-term strategy objectives managing stakeholders from across the business and at all levels to deliver against set timescales.

 

As part of the Central Environment Team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with environmental permits. Working closely with the Environment Manager, you will advise on key compliance issues and provide expert support to the business, helping to identify and mitigate environmental risks. You'll lead investigations, offering technical expertise and ensuring that environmental risks are thoroughly understood and managed effectively.

A core part of your role will be fostering a culture of environmental improvement. This includes developing the competency and capability of colleagues by delivering training, sharing expertise, and creating tools to support the effective management of environmental risks. You'll also lead key company-wide projects that strengthen the organization's approach to environmental risk management.

In addition to leading initiatives, you will act as a trusted advisor, providing expert input to stakeholders at all levels. This includes producing detailed reports for board committees with clear recommendations and actionable insights. You will also work collaboratively across departments, contributing to broader Safety, Health, Environment, and Sustainability (SHES) projects and initiatives.

In addition, you will play a proactive role in identifying emerging environmental risks and planning mitigation strategies. By staying ahead of trends and regulations, you will help shape the organization's environmental strategy, ensuring it remains robust, forward-thinking, and impactful.

 

Skills and Experience

It would be great if you had knowledge and experience in:

  • Environmental permits and legislation
  • Principles of Environmental management to ISO 14001, standards and methods, and their role and application within major hazard industries Implementation and auditing management system standards
  • Advising and assisting areas of the business on environmental management to aid successful deployment of improvement programmes through committees
  • Drafting effective management standards, guidance, training, and tools along with implementation plans for them
  • Supporting accident investigation teams
  • Implementing good environmental management into an organisation and delivering change
