Engineering Manager position to join the existing SGN team responsible for managing and maintaining GNI (UK) Ltd’s natural gas infrastructure located in the Dumfries and Galloway area of Scotland. The client’s assets include gas compressor stations, offtakes, high pressure gas pipelines and associated block valve stations, which transport gas from the south west region of Scotland to Ireland via subsea interconnector pipelines.  


Key Responsibilities:


  • Manage site modification and equipment upgrade projects in accordance with the requirements of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015), including co-ordination of Principal Designers and Principal Contractors.
  • Take a lead role in reviewing design documentation, project planning and materials procurement activities.
  • Generate risk assessments, method statements and construction phase plan documentation for project activities on operational high-pressure gas sites.
  • Participate in Hazard Identification (HAZID), Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) and Hazards in Construction (HAZCON) studies.
  • Supervise and execute site works in accordance with relevant health and safety legislation and SGN’s internal Safe Control of Operations procedures.
  • Ensure accurate project records are generated and maintained, including equipment asset registers, operations manuals and engineering drawing records.
  • Support the existing management team with planning, scheduling and management of inspection and maintenance activities on gas transmission assets.
  • Assist the existing site management team to ensure compliance of network assets with all relevant regulations including Pressure System Safety Regulations, Pipeline Safety Regulations and SEPA permit requirements.
  • Assess and ensure competency requirements for third party contractors involved in site-based activities and assist in managing and maintaining training and competency requirements for SGN staff including mechanical, electrical and instrument technicians.
  • Help to develop and maintain engineering, safety, quality and environment management procedures and records required for the safe and efficient operation of the client’s gas transmission assets.
  • Participate in an out of hours standby rota, providing response to operational issues and emergency response as required.





  • In depth knowledge of SGN’s policies, management procedures and the Safety Management Framework
  • Understanding of the gas transmission system and the linked dependences of the systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of international, national and IGEM standards
  • Participation in an out of hours emergency response rota
  • Knowledge and operational experience with plant ranging from high voltage electrical equipment, high pressure pipelines and equipment, air processing equipment to high-speed rotating machinery.
  • An engineering background with a minimum BEng degree, or HND qualification with considerable experience.
  • Project management experience with a high degree of commercial focus and acumen.
  • A flexible self-starter, with a high attention to detail and an ability to work without supervision.
