AEMS Engineering and Design Lead will be the technical authority of Advanced Energy Management Systems (AEMS) projects and will have responsibility for defining the technical standards, testing and validating the solutions according to Smart Grid Operations and Cyber Security policies and standards. The team will produce the design so that it can be successfully delivered and onboarded. 

This postholder will deliver, operate and maintain ED2 and T2 projects and to take ownership of Standardisation and Strategy of AEMS (POA, Training Simulator, PORT) to improve the internal process, customer experience, operation, and the availability of the network.
 

What you'll be doing

  • Asset Management and Reporting along with asset compliancy with Legislation, License Condition, and NP&R Policy.

  • Reviewing NP&R AEMS related Price Control Strategy & Initiatives, PoC and Trials.

  • Prepare ED3/T3 Price Control Input, and maintain AEMS Master Plan.

  • Supplier Procurement - Supplier Contracts, prepare IP Papers for DSRG/PAM Approval

  • Collating and generating stakeholder reports and track overall AEMS TOTEX with the support from the AEMS Analysis & Reporting administrator.

  • Defining, communicating and educating on appropriate technical standards within the technology area.

  • Supporting the design of solutions, facilitating compliance with Group standards and direction.

  • Defining streamlined processes to efficient and timely delivery of the projects

  • Maintaining an updated documentation library including the description of Engineering and Design process for the different AEMS applications (i.e. ANM, GEMS, DR, CRMS). Define and keep updated process documentation for internal and external customers and contractors.

  • Supporting the development of business cases that define the costs, benefits and delivery approach related to systems development or refresh.

  • Assiting the Delivery team to ensure successful completion, with effective stakeholder communication throughout.

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with suppliers and supervising the delivery of services from them to ensure on-time, on-budget performance.

  • Providing technical expertise to assist with the resolution of escalated operational problems and restoration of service.

  • Delivery of training plans for AEMS Engineering and Design team members and new incorporations.

  • Support the production of the annual work program.

  • Utilising relevant expertise to ensure that architectural plans and budgets reflect the activities and investment required to move from the current state to the desired state.

  • Investigating failures and defects and recommend appropriate remedial actions and/or changes as required.

  • Supervise the production, development, and maintenance of AEMS policy and process documentation reflecting best practise and operational experience.

  • Provide expert opinion to evaluate and recommend new system solutions and technologies.

  • Perform all duties with a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environmental matters.

  • Planning of new customer needs, including new technologies and infrastructures from electrical applications perspective.

  • Perform a feedback check of all customers who use the electrical applications to keep up with the customer's needs.

What you'll bring

To be successful, you will have:

  • Degree in electrical, electronic or telecommunication engineering OR HND/HNC (or equivalent) supported by minimum of five years post-training experience in an engineering and/or project management role within a utility business OR a minimum 10 years relevant industry experience.

  • Knowledge of Energy Networks health & safety requirements and compliance.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Financial management skills (i.e. managing budgets or contracts with suppliers).

  • Demonstratable experience as a team player to work, promote and consolidate efficient team working relationships.

  • Experience in leading and managing a team.

  • Full valid UK driving licence with no penalties and/or convictions.
