Description
As Design Services Manager, you will lead the technical foundation of our Energy Services operation, ensuring every customer receives a well-engineered, future ready solution as they transition to low carbon technologies. You will manage and grow a team of designers and specialists who carry out surveys, develop accurate technical specifications, and create the solutions that form the blueprint for high quality installations across heating, solar, and EV charging products.
You will shape the standards, methodologies, and processes that underpin how our products and services are assessed, designed, and configured. Your role ensures that all designs are safe, compliant, competitive, and aligned with Jersey's regulatory environment, while supporting JE's ambitions for efficiency, scalability, and customer experience excellence.
Collaboration is fundamental to your success. Working closely with the Head of Design & Delivery, you will help steer the technical strategy and ensure the design function evolves in step with the island's de-carbonisation goals. A strong partnership with the Delivery & Aftercare Manager ensures that designs translate seamlessly into reliable, right first-time installations - feeding insights from field performance back into continuous improvement.
By combining technical leadership, team development, market awareness, and a commitment to innovation, you will ensure our design function is a trusted enabler of exceptional customer outcomes and a key driver of Jersey's low carbon transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with customers to promote the move towards a low carbon future, focusing on electric heating, EV charging, solar PV and battery solutions
- Setting performance goals aligned to the company's project timelines, to help drive our strategy
- Compiling budgets and monitoring departmental performance
- Collaborating closely with suppliers and contractors
- Dealing with the more complex customer related issues
- Engage and motivate the team through feedback and coaching to optimise the team's efficiency and performance
- Identify competitive advantage and compare JE's products/services to ensure we lead and develop propositions accordingly.
- Establish barriers to the market development of load growth opportunities and develop plans/strategies to neutralise these.
- Liaise with off island suppliers on new products as well as manufacturers and suppliers representatives
- Scan the market to stay ahead of product applications, technical services, market conditions.
- Meet with customers and assess their energy needs developing clear and effective written proposals/quotations for current and prospective customers.
- Drive increased surveys, quotes and acceptances in the air source heat pump and the home EV charging market (Easycharge Home and Multi-Res)
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of domestic and commercial energy technologies, their application and connection to the grid
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and suitably IT literate.
- Ability to influence and lead partner groups
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Able negotiator with vendors, supplies, governmental entities
- Ability to create technical specifications for installation and understanding/appreciation of grid connection
- Consistent track record of delivering innovative energy solutions
- Experience as supervisor or relevant role
- Understanding of planning requirements and regulatory frameworks, both in Jersey and the UK
- Hold a full current Jersey driving licence
