Job Description

Main purpose and scope of job
Reporting to the Day Operations Supervisor, the Day Operations Operator will be part of a team responsible for the safe, compliant and efficient operation within the weighbridge, main tipping hall, Ash handling plant and Consumable offloading areas at the Greatmoor EFW plant.
1. Health & Safety
• Ensure that all activities within the Greatmoor tipping hall area are carried out in a safe manner in line with FCC Safety Policy and all Health & Safety statutory requirements.
• Assist with co-ordination of all vehicle movements within the tipping hall area are carried out in a safe manner and according to FCC safety procedures.
• Assist with the co-ordination all vehicle movements which are delivering or collecting materials and/or products at site.
• Carry out risk assessments to ensure activities are completed in a safe manner at all times.
• Working as part of a team striving for continual improvement in minimising Health & Safety risk at the Greatmoor EFW plant.
• Ensure visitors to site are inducted in the site safety and emergency procedures.
• Ensure that housekeeping is carried out on a day to day regular basis.
• Will act as the Nominated Person within the limits of their competence when required to carry out work safely.
• Record and report any accidents, incidents and near misses in line with FCC Environment Procedures.
2. Environmental
• Responsible for minimising environmental impacts within the tipping hall area, i.e. odour, dust, noise and vehicle pollutants.
• Carry out regular environmental monitoring checks in and around the tipping hall area and outside areas of the site within the boundary ensuring compliance with the IPPC permit at all times.
• Working as part of a team for continual improvement to minimise environmental impacts at the Greatmoor EFW plant.
• Record and report any impacts or potential impacts on the environment to line manager.
• Operate the weighbridge in accordance with Duty of Care regulations, FCC Company policy and the requirements of Buckinghamshire County Council.
3. Team working
• Working within a small team with the focus on motivation and people values.

• Maintain and develop industrial relations through effective communications.
• Periodically act as a contact between FCC Environment and external contract companies.

4. Key Activities
• Working within a small team of staff covering all activities within the Greatmoor EFW site.
• Assisting with the day to day intake of vehicles ensuring compliance with Duty of Care regulations and FCC Environment procedures at all times.
• Ensuring all loads are recorded, weighed and dispatched effectively as per contracted turnaround time.
• Carry out random inspection of delivered waste to ensure compliance within the Environmental Permit and record and report any non-conformances.
• Operation of overhead cranes, front loader machinery, road sweeper and forklift trucks and any other machinery specifically but not limited to the tipping hall area.
• Assist with completion of relevant reports working with the Operations Support Engineer to meet the needs of both internal and external reporting on the weighbridge and in the tipping hall.
• Assist with maintenance activities in the tipping hall, ash storage area and stores equipment and vehicles.
• Ensure machinery is serviceable at all times by carrying out specified daily checks in line with FCC Procedures.
• Participate in team briefings on a frequent basis and ensure effective shift handovers within the teams.
• Champion site Environment and Health and Safety initiatives where required.
• Ensure that any defects are reported to a responsible person via the MMS system.
• Understanding of Environmental Permit within the job function. Training will be provided.
• Provide cover in the absence of other members of the team and the ability to transfer at short notice from one task to another when needed.
• Co-operate with Operations staff to carry out routine environmental sampling.
• Manage good in and goods out of the stores and replenish stores stock when required as necessary.
• Organise stores and complete reports and returns on stock as required.
Experience

• Understanding of safe and efficient traffic management within a busy environment.
• Ability to operate overhead cranes, front loader machinery, road sweeper and forklift trucks and weighbridge. Training will be provided.
• Good communication skills at all levels both verbally and written.

• Ability to demonstrate excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Have a willingness and ability to operate flexibly over a wide range of work areas.
• Computer literate in all Microsoft Office packages. Training will be provided on the use of site specific software such as weighbridge reporting and MMS.
• Ability to think logically and solve problems effectively and efficiently.
• Completion of stage 1 Health and safety course, the duty of care course and all relevant vehicle licences.
• Understand the importance of this individual role to the success of the facility as an entirety.
Essential Knowledge
• Satisfactory completion of the relevant Competency Management System modules.
• Completion of all other training as defined within the Training Matrix.
• Full UK drivers license
• Ability to work within a small team of shift personnel.
