We’re bringing in a new structure and way of working to our Information Services Directorate and this has created a number of new and exciting roles to help us reshape and prepare for the future and deliver amazing customer service to our customers and colleagues alike. So be part of the future and see what this role is all about.
About the role
We’ve a great opportunity to be a Datacentre Technical Specialist to work as part of the Cloud and Infrastructure Team with a specific responsibility to ensure the effective day-to-day operations of a diverse range of specialist infrastructure platforms and environments (including AIX, Solaris, Linux and SAN platforms).
You’ll maintain levels of support to ensure availability of applications to our Users, while looking to develop new tools and techniques which will reduce the overhead of a support function. We’re looking for you to be key to the transformational journey for our technologies – moving to standardised platforms and continue to act as an SME for these platforms as we look to transform these services to equivalent cloud-based services.
We’re looking for you to use your own judgement to solve problems based on analysis of the information you have, along with the impact of the strategic direction of your area by influencing decision-makers through advice and guidance.
You’ll also be accountable for the installation, configuration, upgrade, administration, monitoring and maintenance of the AIX/Linux/Solaris servers, along with systems administration of hardware and software in the production and development environments. In this role you’ll also provide out of hours support on a standby basis.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for you to have proven experience as a Datacentre Technical Specialist in a similar operational environment, along with exceptional service to all stakeholders, within a complex environment.
We’re looking for you to have proven experience in the diagnosis and resolution of problems relating to AIX/Linux/Solaris server availability, along with experience of Unix Scripting and storage provisioning and LVM administration across all the main UNIX platforms.
You’ll have Unix Memory, process management and user administration, along with AIX, Linux, Solaris High Availability Clustering and job scheduling in Cron and 3rd party tools such as COS Batch and Automic.
We’re looking for you to ideally have knowledge of Networking principles , e.g Firewalls Load Balancing , MTU and to be proficient in the maintenance of high availability AIX/Linux/Solaris servers in support of 24x7 services including Installation/Patching.
