Job Description

As the Business Solutions Analyst, you will act as an internal consultant, providing a key interface between the business and technical communities to translate business challenges and opportunities into commercially and technically viable initiatives. You will strive to ensure the chosen approach meets objectives and aligns to our strategy and you will work with business and peer Digital Technology colleagues, applying a range of well-developed business engagement, stakeholder management, commercial awareness, technical understanding and formal analysis skills.

  • Applying a range of formal business analysis techniques to understand, positively challenge, define and structure business requirements and processes to enable solution delivery
  • Leading discussions with business and technical stakeholders to conduct feasibility studies and provide positive challenge on business ideas, identifying the root of the problem or opportunity
  • Adding shape and structure to these ideas to create high-level objectives, requirements and solution options that fit with existing technology strategy and architecture
  • Assisting business owners in the production of benefits-based business cases
  • Producing artefacts such as Project Request Documents, business cases, requirements specifications and process mapping outputs using standard formats and methodologies
  • Working with peer functions within DT to support the evaluation, validation and recommendation of solution options, ensuring that the solution as described will deliver the benefits / resolve the original issue (keep the project true)
  • Working with third party solution providers to review, guide and critique tender responses and delivery proposals
  • Identifying, escalate and manage risks, issues and dependencies that drive the selection of potential solutions
  • Participating in agile/waterfall development or COTS procurement projects as required
  • Working with colleagues and suppliers to support change portfolio delivery activities where appropriate
  • Building strong relationships with colleagues and partners including peer DT colleagues, business SMEs and external supplier staff
  • Supporting the Senior Business Solutions Analysts in delivering more complex or strategic activities
  • Driving continuous improvement in DT’s ways of working


  • A credible and confident IT professional, who is able to provide thought leadership and advice to business stakeholders from all levels of the company with a consultancy approach
  • A strong facilitator, comfortable with leading group workshops and discussions
  • Highly developed interpersonal, relationship building and influencing skills, with the ability to positively take on difficult conversations and robustly challenge where needed
  • Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills

  • At least four years of experience as a Business Analyst, with demonstrable understanding of analysis practice, outputs and deliverables including: business case production, feasibility studies, gap and impact analysis, as-is/to-be process mapping and modelling, business and technical requirements specifications, options appraisal
  • Agile User Story development/backlog prioritisation
  • High standards of written and verbal communication, with the ability to add the requisite definition and structure to clearly express complex or vague concepts
  • An understanding of technical IT concepts including development, COTS and infrastructure implementation
  • Familiarity with development methodologies including Agile and Waterfall and the functional role of the SBA/Business Analyst within them
  • Familiarity with Project Management concepts and techniques
  • Experience of both development projects (Agile and Waterfall) and third-party application procurement/tender activities
  • Understanding of financial and commercial concepts such as EBIT
  • A relevant professional qualification in Business Analysis
  • Desireable - Previous experience within the Energy Industry or other highly regulated environment
