About the role

At Northumbrian Water our vision is to become the national leader in water and wastewater services; we have an exciting opportunity to join our Intelligence & Analytics team to support this vision in the role of Business Intelligence Lead.

Reporting to the Intelligence & Analytics Manager within Information Services, you will be responsible for enabling our organisation to make better decisions via the delivery of a programme of leading-edge, data-driven, business intelligence (BI) solutions.

Working within our growing Intelligence & Analytics team within Information Services, you will collaborate with Data Science and Management Information team Leads, the Performance Insights Coordinator and analysts to deliver BI solutions. You will be responsible for Intelligence & Analytics’ BI programme, taking a lead role in delivering initiatives; developing and embedding BI strategy; and ensuring effective project, budget and contract management. As part of managing the BI programme, you will also coordinate NWG’s BI external partner framework’s involvement in projects.

Using your proven, applied technical analytic skills you will provide a robust business intelligence service to our internal customers, including data ETL; the creation of effective dashboards and the automation of existing reporting.

Success in the role will be underpinned by excellent stakeholder engagement – as such you will be expected to demonstrate excellent collaboration and influencing skills with all levels of NWG colleagues to identify prioritised business requirements, deliver projects efficiently, and manage customer expectations effectively. As part of this you will also foster NWG’s growing capabilities for ‘self-service’ analytics across the organisation.

An understanding, and application of, BI best practice is fundamental to this role – engaging with external peers both within and outside of the water sector. You will use this networking and your own creativity to challenge conventional thinking and ways of working, drawing upon pan-industry insights to share best practice and implement cutting edge analytics techniques.

About you

You will be passionate regarding the tangible benefits that creative, well-designed BI solutions can provide to NWG, with the ability to transfer this enthusiasm to your stakeholders and colleagues. This should be based on a sound understanding of analytics practices, principles and toolsets, paired with a proven track record delivering data-driven analytics projects.

Demonstrating strong project management skills, you will be able to identify, prioritise and manage a programme of concurrent initiatives from project inception through iterative design and development phases. You will have experience of successful analytics project delivery, underpinned by an understanding of the importance of benefits realisation at project handover and beyond. You will also be able to manage NWG’s BI partner framework suppliers, including procurement activity, partner liaison and management, to ensure that quality frameworks and success criteria are met.

Being able to think both strategically and tactically about NWG’s direction of travel in terms of business intelligence and analytics, you will be a key voice in influencing our ongoing evolution in this area.

You will have applied, working knowledge of business intelligence technologies and platforms and, as the discipline of data analytics evolves continuously - you will also demonstrate a strong foundation of analytical skills, coupled with a commitment to continuous learning.

Being familiar with working as part of cross-functional agile or DevOps team you will be able to foster effective collaboration with colleagues across the company to improve business outcomes, demonstrating the ability to collaborate well with your team members, alongside internal customers and partner organisations. You will possess strong verbal and written communication skills, able to build positive relationships to influence key stakeholders, while recognising the varying needs of our people to understand business requirements. Alongside this, you will be comfortable working independently to develop analytics and be highly self-motivated in this regard.
