Job Purpose

 

This is an exciting opportunity to take on the efficient, cost-effective provision and maintenance of approximately 2300 assets for the Company of which there are approximately 300 HGV vehicles. You'll be working within a fast-paced and challenging part of our business where you'll make a valuable contribution to our Fleet Management team. You'll provide valuable day to day support to the Workshop Controller, deputising for all aspects of the role when they are out of the workshop and supervising workshop mechanics (when required). As a current experienced HGV Mechanic, you'll work as an integral part of a structured team who are responsible for the efficient provision and maintenance of optimum plant and fleet for United Utilities at the most cost-effective price

 

Job Accountabilities

 

You'll be responsible for providing support on all matters within our Fleet Maintenance workshop, including leading Operators Licence awareness across the respective team. You'll prioritise, plan and schedule manpower and equipment resources to ensure business requirements are fully complied with. You'll also be responsible for:

 
  • Carrying out weekly Health & Safety inspections in the workshop, capture the results and take appropriate action to minimise H&S risk. Liaise with our insurance inspector & carry out the remedial actions highlighted in the inspections & update the Crimson system
  •                
  • Providing development support to workshop apprentices (where applicable) as a “buddy”
  •                
  • The procurement of all parts in the workshop, ensuring compliance with the procurement process and the use of correct suppliers
  •                
  • Delivering all new fleet items into the business, manage and maintain these items, and ensure that they are the most effective solution for our business requirements
  •                
  • Working in conjunction with the wider business
  •                
  • Day to day maintenance of United Utilities plant and fleet vehicles
  •                
  • Repairing and maintaining plant and fleet in a cost-efficient manner
  •                
  • Liaising with Operators with regards to the maintenance and repair of plant and fleet items
  •                
  • Commissioning and decommissioning plant and fleet items
  •                
  • Keeping appropriate records and ensuring all documentation is completed accurately and on time
  •                
  • Complying with Ministry of Transport legislation and Health & Safety regulations, and dealing with Health &Safety issues
  •                
  • Participating in flexible working, standby and callout arrangements
  •                
  • Preparing for HGV and Van MOTs
  •                
  • Undertaking fault diagnosis via electronic computer software
  •                
  • Taking permanent accountability for parts and materials procurement
  •                
  • Providing a focal lead for proactively reducing H&S risk in the workshop environment
  •                
  • Taking permanent accountability for the Crimson system and resolving non-conformities highlighted by Zurich
  •                
  • At all other times you'll carry out the duties of a HGV mechanic
 

Knowledge and Skills

 

To be considered for this role you'll need to have substantial previous experience within a similar role covering all aspects of Mechanical servicing and repairs within a fast-paced environment, delivering a high standard of work to enable the efficient and cost-effective provision and maintenance of Plant and Vehicles to the Company. You'll also have:
