We are seeking a skilled and motivated Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Engineer to join TeamJE!  

This engineer will play a pivotal role in leading the design, implementation, deployment, operation and maintenance of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) at Jersey Electricity.  
More than just a job, the AMI Engineer has accountability for the entire AMI lifecycle, from development and deployment to operation and maintenance. The role will require a deep understanding of metering technologies and data management in addition to electrical network infrastructure. 

The successful candidate will also have the ability to bring people on the journey,  providing people and technical expertise and leadership, as well as internal training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement AMI systems and solutions. 
  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and testing of smart meters and related devices. 
  • Manage and troubleshoot AMI network infrastructure, including PLC, wired and a variety of wireless communications technologies. 
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system designs, network diagrams, and operational procedures. 
  • Perform data analysis to monitor system performance and identify areas for improvement. 
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to integrate AMI systems with existing infrastructure. 
  • Provide technical support and training to internal teams and external partners. 
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in metering technologies. 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Proven Leadership: Ability to lead and manage for performance, fostering a culture of collaboration, development, and empowerment. 
  • Effective Communicator: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with both internal and external customers 
  • Problem-Solving Prowess: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail. 
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with automation architecture, stakeholder management, coding/scripting (SQL, Python, etc.) and relational databases. 
  • Team Player & Independent Working: Flourish in both independent and collaborative environments, adapting to a fast-paced dynamic. 
  •  Deep understanding of AMI systems, smart meters, communication technologies, and data management principles. 
  • Proficiency in data management and analysis tools. 
  • Requirements engineering - working directly with other business units to collect requirements, develop quality functional specifications and business process maps 
  • Experience with relational databases, including reading and revising data through software applications 
  • Understanding of/experience with SQL (structured query language) 
  • Business process modelling and analysis 
  • Experience with installation, configuration, and implementation of applications and services 
  • Providing clear documentation for product support, hardware management and other team processes 
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, CISSP) are a plus. 
  • Troubleshooting and implementation of  wireless and wired communications technology 
Expertise & Qualifications:  
  • Experience as an electrical utility industry Professional 
  • Experience in producing specifications, analysing and implementing technical standards, and developing documentation. 
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred. 
  • Valid Driving license (Jersey)
