As an Industrial Placement Student in the Digital and Data team at National Grid, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to the UK's energy transition by supporting two key functions-Infrastructure Delivery (ID) and Customer Network Development (CND). Both pathways offer unique experiences where you'll apply digital tools and data analytics to real-world energy projects, helping to improve efficiency, decision-making, and customer outcomes.
Pathway 1: Infrastructure Delivery (ID)
Infrastructure Delivery is responsible for executing major projects that expand and enhance the energy network. This includes building and upgrading substations and transmission lines to ensure the safe and reliable distribution of electricity and gas. The team manages the full project lifecycle-from feasibility studies to construction and commissioning-while supporting initiatives like the Great Grid Upgrade, which connects more clean, low-carbon power to the transmission network across England and Wales.
Pathway 2: Customer Network Development (CND)
Customer Network Development focuses on connecting new and existing generation and demand customers to the energy network. The team builds offers that include contractual and technical requirements, designs appropriate connection solutions, and manages delivery efficiently. CND is also redesigning the connections process to reduce lead times and improve customer satisfaction, playing a vital role in enabling the energy transition through excellent service and strong industry relationships.
As an Industrial Placement Student in the Digital and Data team, you'll be part of a growing function that's transforming how infrastructure projects are delivered. You'll gain hands-on experience using digital tools and data analytics to improve project efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making-while contributing to real-world energy projects that shape the UK's future.
